I have just returned from my first trip to “the Swiss hotel schools” where I met with dozens of our future leaders.

The trip started in Crans Montana and the Les Roches campus. This article relates to my experience there, more specifically to the two people who made this visit a huge success.

Our first day started with a (very) early breakfast and a short drive from the hotel to Les Roches for an 8 am presentation to the students.

We arrived at the campus’ car park and Florian Corea, Industry Relations Coordinator, was there (in the actual car park) waiting to welcome us.

As soon as we entered the school, we were offered refreshments and were introduced to Christian Liu, the Career and Placement Counselor who, together with Florian would be looking after us during our visit.

We were invited to ask as many questions as we wished and it did not take long for us to realise that both Christian and Florian were “in the know”. As we would soon discover, they both graduated from Les Roches themselves and were offered jobs in campus. In Christian’s case, after a spell working in the fashion industry.

As you can imagine, a recruitment visit where one is to present to a student body and then engage in back to back interviews, can be a challenging task. Many things can derail the plan: the presentation can go wrong, there may be last minute changes to the interview schedules or to the event arrangements. Nothing fazed our hosts at Les Roches.

They were thoroughly ready for all our questions, IT requirements, stationary and administrative support needs and meal requirements. The restaurant at Les Roches deserves a special mention here.

Once the interviews commenced, either Florian or Christian would pop their heads around hourly to make sure that we had everything we needed and to make sure that every single change to interview arrangements (and there were some) was followed up with a new written schedule “for our records”.

At the end of each day, Christian would sit down with us to review each candidate and gather our opinion, giving us his own professional insight where appropriate. Then, after an informal debrief and chat we would be escorted back to the car park, where they both waved us goodbye as we drove off campus and back to our hotel.

This truly was 5 star hospitality at its best: friendly, approachable, knowledgeable and welcoming. We felt completely safe in their hands as it was very clear, from the start, that every detail had been thought out and that both Christian and Florian knew what they were doing and genuinely enjoyed doing it which, in turn, reflected very positively on our impression of both Les Roches and its students.

From here I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Christian and Florian for making our visit so exceptional and productive. It was a real pleasure working with you both. You were the perfect brand ambassadors for Les Roches!

I don’t know whether everything you did for us was part of a well rehearsed brand standard or improvised but I can assure you that it made all the difference in the world to us.

Count me in for next year and I promise to bring my ski gear!
